Understanding Insurance Perils

When it comes to your homeowners insurance policy your perils are listed out for you. This is how an insurance company lets you know which events will be covered against that caused your loss. There are mulitple levels of insurance policies you can purchase which a explained in forms.

A basic form (HO-1) will cover you for 11 perils including: fire and lightning, loss of property removed from premise endangered by fire or other perils, windstorm or hail, explosion, riot or civil commotion, aircraft, vehicles, smoke, vandalism and malicious mischeif, theft and breakage of glass constituting a part of a building.

A broad form (HO-2) will cover you against 18 perils. The 11 included under the basic form plus 7 more: falling objects, weight of ice sleet or snow, collapse of building or any part of one; sudden and accidential tearing apart, cracking, burning or bulging of a steam or hot water system or of appliances for heating water; accidental discharge, leakage or overflow of water or steam from within your plumbing, heating or air condition system or domestic appliance; freezing of plumbing, heating and air condition systems and domestic appliances; and sudden and accidential damages from artifically generated currents to electrical appliances, devices, fixtures and wiring(Tv and radio ubes not included).

The special form (HO-3) is the most popular form of coverage written. It offers a broad range of coverage including comprehensive coverage on yor home and broad name perils coverage on your contents. The form covers you for all perils except flood, earthquake,war, nuclear accident and other specified in your policy.
